Athletes With Major Business Empires Outside of Sports

Read Time:2 Minute, 40 Second

Athletes have always had a leg up on the rest of us. They get paid to work out, they have access to all kinds of top-notch facilities and nutritionists…and yet some of them still manage to make money outside their sports careers. In fact, some athletes can make a lot more money off the court or field than they ever do while they’re actually playing. In this list we’ll look at some examples of athletes who made millions outside their fields.

Shaquille O’Neal

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most recognizable and successful athletes in history. An NBA legend, Shaq is also a savvy businessman who has been making money for years. Shaq has been nicknamed “The Big Aristotle” because he is not only an athlete but also a philosopher—in fact, when he retired from basketball at age 38, he said: “I was at peace with myself.” That peace translated into success outside of sports too; Shaq has made over $350 million as an entertainer (actor/rapper), through various endorsements, restaurants and other business ventures, and of course by being a member of the best basketball TV cast there is on TNT! He is making around 60 mil per year. People who are fans of Shaq are also fans of the NBA should take a look at the Betting Bonus Codes as there are sportsbook bonuses for all sport fans out there.

Number 23 Air Mike

Michael Jordan is the highest paid retired athlete, with a net worth of $1.65 billion. His wealth comes from his stakes in the Charlotte Hornets and Bobcats, as well as other ventures. But his biggest cash cow has been the Air Jordans Nike sneakers. The most popular shoe in the world has been earning 150 mil per year for Michael due to his 5% earning for each shoe sold. Wanting to be like Mike, has never been more true.

Conor McGregor

You may know Conor McGregor as the UFC lightweight champion. You might also know him as the first person in history to hold two titles simultaneously, or perhaps you’d call him the first person ever to hold belts in two different weight classes.

But there’s another fact about McGregor that might surprise you: he’s also a highly successful businessman.

In 2021, Forbes named Conor McGregor one of its highest-paid athletes for that year—and with good reason! His endorsements and several ventures outside of MMA fighting have granted him some big bucks. He regularly sells merchandise like clothing and hats through his website; he has his own line of whiskey called proper 12 which as Connor claims will earn him 700 mil soon.

You may be surprised to learn that athletes are making more money outside of sports. We hope that you were able to take away something new from this article. It can be difficult to get a handle on the world of business, especially if you’re not familiar with the ins and outs of it. We provided a few interesting examples, but if there are any other athletes or businesses we should have included here, please let us know so we can add them next time around.
